Echoes of the Mist (2024-present)
In the depths of the mist-shrouded hills of Guizhou, the fog moves like an ancient whisper, erasing borders between past and present. In this province of southwest China, the Dong ethnic group seems to remain between presence and disappearance.
Despite efforts to preserve their heritage, Dong people face significant cultural and demographic shifts. They have long shaped their culture through wood, rain, and their polyphonic songs, passing down stories from generation to generation. Yet, as tourism and modern development encroaches and younger generations leave for distant cities for work, these echoes risk being lost to the mist.
What remains when voice fades ? When homes empty ? When the river carries only the memory of those who once walked its banks ?
Still, the fog does not erase—it softens, it preserves. It guards the landscape against forgetting. The Dong songs still resonate, under the drum towers, far from the noise of the crowded cities.
